Our meeting place in Sörnäinen offers free counselling and companionship from volunteers – also without an appointment.

Counselling, volunteer support and the strength of community for everyone

At our meeting place, we offer free counselling and the support of Community Volunteers. Everyone is welcome at our meeting place in Sörnäinen. You don’t have to be alone.

You can visit us regardless of your life situation: our counselling professionals and trained volunteers are here for you. When you visit us, we’ll have a relaxed chat with you to determine how you would like to move forward. If you wish, you can enjoy some quiet time to yourself, speak with a professional counsellor or spend time with our community.

Free psychosocial counselling

We offer counselling

  • Primarily without an appointment during our opening hours, i.e. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 15:00 to 18:00.
  • Counselling is also available by appointment outside the opening hours. The counselling appointments in Sörnäinen are face-to-face appointments. Use the calendar below to book an appointment.

Through our counselling service, you can get reliable support from a professional regarding various life situations, either alone or together with a friend, partner or family member. Our counsellors are counselling professionals bound by confidentiality.

Our free counselling service is available to everyone over the age of 12. The counselling service can help with, for example, issues related to mental well-being, interpersonal relationships, loneliness or other challenges in life. If you wish, you can use the service anonymously. We also offer support with concerns related to family and friends. Our counselling services are offered in Finnish, Swedish and English. Interpreter services are also available.

Community Volunteers provide support and company

We also have Community Volunteers at HelsinkiMissio Sörnäinen. You can spend time with them and share what’s on your mind on an informal basis. You can meet with Community Volunteers at our meeting place during our opening hours (Tue–Thu 15:00–18:00). Most of our Community Volunteers speak English.

The Community Volunteers are trained by HelsinkiMissio. They are over 20 years old and in a stable place in their own lives. The Community Volunteers are there for you, but they are not a substitute for professional help or therapy. The Community Volunteers are also bound by confidentiality. You can also apply for a Companion Volunteer for a young person, a Family Friend or a Culture Companion through HelsinkiMissio online.

Counselling and support at a time that suits you

At our meeting place, you can find free counselling, the company of volunteers as well as guidance and advice without an appointment. We are open from Tuesday to Thursday, from 15:00 to 18:00.​

Our partners

The meeting place in Sörnäinen is part of HelsinkiMissio’s Voimapysäkki project focused on the development of a feedback informed low-threshold counselling model. It is also part of the National Mental Health Strategy and the Mental Health Support 2025–2027 programme of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, which aims to increase low-threshold mental health support in Finland.  ​ The key partners of HelsinkiMissio’s project are the City of Helsinki’s adult social workthe Guarantee Foundation, the Blue Ribbon Foundation, Y-säätiö and selected volunteers and experts by experience. The operations are funded by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health

HelsinkiMissio’s meeting place in Sörnäinen is open to everyone over the age of 12. We offer counselling on topics such as mental well-being, difficult life circumstances, problems with relationships, loneliness, substance abuse and addiction. Our services can also be used anonymously. We offer assistance to customers of all ages regarding various concerns, including those related to family and friends. The services we offer to our customers include professional guidance and advice, counselling in the form of a short-term intervention (1–5 sessions), and the company of trained Community Volunteers. You can also participate in community activities in Sörnäinen – we organise open events and social activities open to the public at our meeting space.

You can find us in Helsinki’s Sörnäinen district, at Kinaporinkatu 11 (ground floor, we recommend arriving via Hämeentie).

Counselling services without an appointment and the meeting place are open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 15:00 to 18:00. Otherwise, we are open by appointment.

If necessary, we are open by appointment, even outside our regular opening hours.

At our meeting place, we offer professional counselling, guidance and advice in Finnish, Swedish and English. We also have the opportunity to provide interpreting services – ask our staff for more information. HelsinkiMissio’s training of volunteer Community Volunteers is currently only offered in Finnish.

We have endeavoured to make our meeting place as accessible as possible. More detailed accessibility information on the meeting place: HelsinkiMissio Sörnäinen is located on the ground floor on Kinaporinkatu. Access to the main entrance is directly from the pavement. There are three small thresholds in front of the door, each of which is 2 cm high. A portable wheelchair ramp is available on-site. The width of the main entrance is 98 cm. Next to the main entrance is a doorbell at a height of 115 cm. Visitors need to ring the doorbell to have the door opened. The outer door leads to a small vestibule with a width of 168 x 165 cm. The vestibule has doors opening to the right and the left. Both doorways are 87.5 cm wide. Turning right takes you to a space that is on the same level as the vestibule, i.e. the ground level. There is an accessible toilet on the ground level. Also on the ground level is a soundproofed room for conversations with a counselling professional. The doorway to the soundproofed room is 75 cm wide. There is a ramp in front of the door and a small threshold that is 2 cm high at its highest point. The soundproofed room is large enough for a wheelchair. The furniture is movable. If access to the soundproofed room is obstructed, counselling can also be offered behind a separate screen on the ground floor. Turning left from the vestibule, there is a ramp to the upper level. The ramp is 2.68 metres long. At its narrowest, the ramp is 140 cm wide. The ramp is equipped with a handrail. In addition to the ramp that starts at the vestibule door, there is a short flight of steps connecting the ground level and the upper level. It is 173 cm wide and has four steps. The flight of steps is equipped with a handrail.

The counselling service is available anonymously. You can also remain anonymous through your initial contact with the service. You can use the services offered at the meeting place anonymously during our drop-in hours (Tue–Thu, 15:00–18:00).

Unfortunately, we do not allow pets at our meeting place. However, you are welcome to visit our premises with a service dog.
